Artist Information:
Richard Hooke graduated from painting posters and children's greeting cards when he joined the Watercolour Workshop in Richmond upon Thames in the 1980s.Led by three times Sunday Times/Singer & Friedlander award winner Antonia Black, the school's focus was on speed and light. Working in Antonia's studio and en plein air, the River Thames and Richmond Park nearby provided much of the subject matter and inspiration.
Richard has been a regular visitor to the Isle of Purbeck since he proposed to his wife, Sue, on Swanage seafront. Married now for over thirty years, Richard and Sue returned regularly with their three children, camping in Tom's Field or near Knitson Farm and staying at Seaview Cottage in Studland. With their home now in Ulwell, Richard has turned to oils to capture the unique light and landscape of the Isle of Purbeck.
Much of his work explores the relationship between the land and the livestock that both shapes it and is sustained by it.
