Paul Schilling - Boy Crabbing

Paul Schilling

Paul Schiling was born in Birmingham in 1962 , the eldest of three brothers. From a very early age, Paul was inspired and encouraged to draw and paint by his father who was a very talented artist himself.

Paul Schilling - Ballard Down from PeverilPaul left school with a keen aptitude for art and went on to Bournville School of Art to do a two year design technician course. After completing his course and gaining two A levels, Paul went on to work in various advertising studios and agencies in the West Midlands as a Graphic artist. Due to the nature of working in the pressured industry Paul and his wife felt a slower pace of life was needed. Paul and his family visited his wife's parents several times a year for holidays who lived in Corfe and immediately fell in love with Dorset. So with Suzanne's love for 'Hardy' country and Paul's passion for art and the prospect of living by the coast decided to sell up and move to Dorset in 1996.

Paul and his wife Suzanne currently live in north Swanage with their three children and have never looked back.
Paul Schilling - Durdle Door
"Moving to Dorset has been one of the most life changing experiences for me as an artist. I am always amazed at the variety and diversity of the subject matter that there is just on ones door step. Even the local scenery can look so fifferent from one day to the next depending on the different lighting and time of day. Sometimes to get some wonderful and awe-inspiring photographs it has meant getting up really early with my camera to catch the sun rising over Swanage Bay-a truly amazing experience. The Dorset coast line is some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere in the world. It is such an amazing gift to be able to capture something of the beauty of a scene and puy it down on paper or canvas."

Paul's prefered medium for painting is water colours as they seem to have a life of their own which in itself adds another dimension to ones work. Paul does however prefer to use acrylics for larger works. Occasionally pastel chalks, pencil and oils are used depending on his subject matter. Paul is curently working on a series of water colour paintings entitled "Memories of Swanage" which are being produced as limited edition prints.

Paul also produces his own hand-made greeting cards from his photographs and paintings. His valentine cards were very successful and Paul hopes to provide a wider range of cards throughout the year. Paul also takes commissions including family pets. For further details Paul can be contacted through the gallery.

"Being able to paint is such a wonderful gift. To emulate something of beauty, or capture the mood of a scene or subject with the whole spectrum of colours to choose from is so fulfilling for me as an artist"
