Rachel Barker

Rachel Barker is part of a small family business designing and making ceramics since the mid 1990s.

Rachel describes her 'Coriander' range:

"Using sketches of the coriander in my garden, drawn late in the season as the seeds were drying, I decorated a coffee cup for Andrew’s birthday. It soon became a favourite and has since developed into its present incarnation. I like the way it springs from the base of the cup – as it come up through the earth."

Rachel describes living in Italy, and how it has influenced her designs - "We both studied Fine Art, but at separate times and colleges, and we met later when I was working in Italy. I would say art school gave me an understanding of how important it is to be adaptable in one’s creative life and a love of drawing whatever is around. During my years living in Italy, I developed a passion for growing, preparing and sharing food.

Rachel Barker ceramics are very much based on their love of good food, and a love of simple elements and a craving for paring back, so essential qualities can be appreciated and enjoyed.
