Paul Angel
Paul
was born in Bournemouth in 1971 and grew up in Dorset. After completing
an arts foundation course at Shelley Park, Bournemouth he studied painting
and printmaking in Cardiff then photography at Bournemouth & Poole College
of Art & Design between 1992 and 1994.
Paul's current work includes commissions (interiors, event documentary,
natural landscape and architectural details) as well as his own landscape
work.
His major ongoing project is love | landscape, documenting found
heart-shaped grafitti as well as the locations in which he finds it.
Alphabet
Coast is an attempt to place the details of the world which so interest
him into a context that has proven incredibly popular with the art-buying
public.
The concept for the images is that they all use letters, symbols and textures
found in coastal areas. Always armed with a camera Paul spends most of
his time while out and about stopping to photograph weathered and battered
letters on all kinds of surfaces.
Paul can often be found scouring coastal cottages, rural retreats and
splendid signposts for interesting textures, fonts and colours ready to
be recycled into the words and pictures that make up this Alphabet Coast
collection - if you're ever in Swanage, see if you can spot where some
of them came from!
Each limited edition print is produced to archival quality and is signed
and numbered by Paul Angel and new prints are added to the collection
every month!
He currently lives within sight of the sea in Swanage with Vicki, their
sons Sunny and Herbie and a dog called Rosie.
