Peter Heard

Peter Heard - Harvest Headland

Self-taught, and a civil engineer by trade, Peter Heard began painting in the early 1970s and quickly gained international recognition and a string of celebrity clients from his hugely successful shows at London's Portal Gallery.

He is best known for his quirky, naive English village scenes and witty depictions of sporting people, but in the late 1990s his work took a dramatic change of direction and he began a stunning collection of fabulously graphic lighthouse paintings.

Peter Heard - Early Start

He sees these images as a culmination of his 30-year career and refers to the first 25 years as "an apprenticeship" which has allowed him to perfect his technique.
