Kara Leigh Ford - "At the Beach" Stoneware Chubby Milk Jug

Kara Leigh Ford - "At the Beach" Stoneware Chubby Milk Jug

Kara grew up on the Devon coast,  the beach was her playground. She is drawn to making pots which remind her of lazy summer days next to the ocean -  textures and colours of her favourites; Bantham, Bigbury, Challaborough all have put their mark on her work.

Her pottery is designed to transport people to their favourite beach or stretch of coastline. Her training as a painter before she became a potter means she works backwards, she thinks about the colours/ textures she wants to use first, before she think about form a pot will take.

She names each design after a specific moment she's had at the coast; Stormy Seas, Calm Seas, Frosty Blue-Green, Sandy Bay. Each individual pot is lovingly crafted to have its own unique characteristics and personality, no two pieces are exactly alike. She wants each one of her pieces to feel like they have soul.

Kara describes this design... "They say that looking out to sea heals the mind.  Hand thrown on the wheel using sandy stoneware clay. Glazed with three layers of merging textured glazes; evocative of the beach, sea and sky. My potter's mark is on the base."
