Oliver has established himself as a successful landscape artist, working exclusively in watercolour.  With Oliver's work we explore the impact of light, the weather, and the seasons and how these combine to achieve paintings that are evocative and atmospheric.

"One of the very attractive features of both Studland Bay, and Swanage Bay, pictured here, is their orientation. Both are east-facing and this shelter often gives rise to calm, almost glassy seas. Although not to be found on surfers' bucket lists, their popularity with holidaymakers is easy to understand - a benign location to moor your yacht, a less challenging environment for a spot of kayaking, and no chance of your kids being swept out to sea on a rip current!

It is particularly nice to be out and about first thing in the morning as it tends to be the least windy time of day, and with the soft light reflecting off the water there are always plenty of scenes to paint. I liked this composition, zooming in on the various small craft moored in the bay, with Ballard Down and Old Harry Rocks in the background. The two boats in the foreground belong to the Swanage Sea Rowing Club, and are know as Cornish Pilot Gigs. The club owns 5 gigs in all I believe, and these two certainly helped to lead the eye into the painting!"
